⏰ Best time to catch Warm, calm mornings and evenings once the water's fully warmed in late spring/summer.

Habitat

Warm shallow bays, harbours and river backwaters; tailing fish give themselves away in spring.

Season by season

Spring

Sight-fish shallow mudflats as they warm — sweetcorn or boilies on a hair rig.

Summer

Pre-baited swims with method feeders; dawn and dusk are prime.

Fall

Feeds hard ahead of winter along deeper edges.

Winter

Semi-dormant in deep holes.

What to throw

Sweetcorn, boilies, bread; strong hooks and a baitrunner reel — also a serious fly-rod target.
